Roaring Brook Nature Center is committed to providing an environment that maximizes learning. We offer a comprehensive list of programs for students in grades K-8. The Nature Center includes a small interpretive building and five miles of trails on a 150+ acre wildlife preserve. The Center offers a wide variety of educational programs including field trips to the Center as well as in-classroom or assembly programs at your school.
Programs can be tailored to fit your curriculum, including urban-suburban partnership programs.

Program Times

All programs at Roaring Brook Nature Center
are 1-1/4 hour (75 minutes) except as listed. Schedule times may vary
slightly for 2 hour programs.
For all day programs, scheduling as early in the year as possible is recommended.
Program Fees
- 1 hour programs - $6.00 per student, $60 minimum
charge
- 2 hour programs - $9.00 per student, $100 minimum
charge
- All-day programs - $11.00 per student, $150 minimum charge
- Teachers are admitted free.

Picnic Facilities
Limited facilities are available
to groups. Reservations are required.
Gift Shop
The Nature Center gift shop carries a variety of nature-related items for children and adults. Reservations are requested for gift shop use. Gift bags may be ordered in advance.
To place an order, call 860.693.0263. Gift shop proceeds support our educational programming.
Cancellations
Two week cancellation notice is required to avoid being billed the minimum program fee.
There is no charge for groups canceling due to inclement weather. Every effort is made to reschedule.
Special Needs
Please notify the Nature Center of any special needs of your group. Our building is wheelchair accessible and we have an ADA compliant restroom; most or our trails are not wheelchair accessible but several smaller trails near our building are wheelchair accessible.
Chaperone Policy
One chaperone is requested for every ten students. Please do not bring siblings or additional younger children.
Arrival / Teacher Check-in
Upon arrival teachers should check into gift shop/office. Late arrivals may result in shortened programs. Refunds are not issued for shortened programs. If you are planning to arrive early, please notify the Center as building space may be in use by other groups.
Payment
Full payment is required upon arrival unless other arrangements are made in advance.
Payment may be made in the form of cash (larger bills, please), check or by Mastercard or Visa. The Nature Center does not accept discount coupons or Museum memberships in lieu of payment for school programs.
Weather / Clothing
Programs at Roaring Brook Nature Center
utilize the wide variety of habitats
in the refuge. Classes will go out in the rain, except in the event of thunderstorms. Participants must come dressed to go outdoors.

"When Roaring Brook Comes to You ..."
You may arrange for a Nature Center staff
member to come to your school. In-school programs are adapted
for specific grade levels and may be tailored to fit your curriculum and
teaching needs. Most programs will include the presentation of at
least one live animal.
Assembly Programs
These are programs for large groups
of students (30 or more). The fee for each assembly program is
$250 plus mileage. Discounts may be given
if more than one program is scheduled in a school on a given day.
Some assembly programs can also be done as outreach classroom programs.

Library Programs
A (non-school) Library program for large groups
of students (30 or more) is
$250 plus mileage. If under thirty students, the fee is $170.
Classroom
Programs
These one hour programs are for groups
of 30 students or less and include hands-on and small group activities.
Program cost: $170 plus mileage for each program within a 25 mile
radius of the Nature Center; $195 plus mileage for programs outside
the 25 mile radius. Discounts are available if more than one program
is scheduled in a school on a given day.

Naturalist
In-Residence
A Nature Center naturalist will visit your school for an entire day offering programs that may include slide presentations, mounted and live animals, and hands-on activities. You can choose from the program topics listed for assembly and classroom presentations. A combination of several program types, with a maximum of four, may be held during the course of a day. We also assist teachers with curriculum development, enrichment programming, and in planning/taking a field trip to a natural area close to your school. Reserve early to ensure availability. The cost for this program
is $500 plus mileage.
